About Dr. DuBois
Contact & FAQ

Dr. DuBois is a board-certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic shoulder surgeon who has been at the forefront of a revolution in the use of in-office musculoskeletal ultrasound by orthopaedic surgeons and other subspecialty physicians. He has been performing in-office ultrasound of the shoulder since he started private practice in San Diego in 2004, and has performed thousands of diagnostic exams and ultrasound-guided injections.

He received his B.S. in Zoology from Oregon State University, graduating in 1994. He then graduated from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in 1998, receiving his M.D. with Highest Distinction, an honor bestowed on the top 5% of his class. He was recognized for his academic achievements by being named to the Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. After medical school, he entered orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Washington, considered one of the top medical centers in the world. He completed his residency training in 2003. Because of his keen interest in shoulder surgery, he completed a one-year advanced shoulder surgery fellowship at the University of Washington with Dr. Frederick Matsen. It was during this fellowship training year where he recognized the value of implementing shoulder ultrasound into private practice.

He quickly realized that there were few organized opportunities for orthopaedic surgeons to get hands-on training in MSK ultrasound tailored to their unique needs. He made it a goal to develop an organized system for other orthopaedic surgeons to get the training they need to become competent and efficient with in-office shoulder ultrasound.

Dr. DuBois has been active in training hundreds of physicians in the use of in-office ultrasound. He has lectured at numerous national meetings, as well as providing one-on-one training with surgeons and physicians. Because of his unique experience as an orthopaedic surgeon performing ultrasound in his office, he is sought after for training and serves as an educational consultant for several major manufacturers of ultrasound equipment.
